Feeling the Healing: What's Acupuncture Doing?
Alrighty! Training season has started to tell you more about acupuncture.
How in the world does acupuncture get your body to start healing? It doesn't seem possible and seems more like something from a sci fi or fantasy movie than something that should work in real life. In this email, I'll try and crack the code to make a little more sense out of it.
Acupuncture is like tapping into the wiring system of your body and is accessed through the nervous system and your fascia. When we place those ultra-thin needles at specific points, it's like we're sending signals along your body's electrical grid that send signals to the brain. These signals help to regulate blood flow, calm inflammation, release muscle tension, and activate weak muscles to help remind the body on what it is supposed to do to heal. I can explain how this works in more detail during your first session.
But it's not just about the physical. Acupuncture also can get your body to relax, which is crucial for recovery. When you receive acupuncture your body secretes chemicals like serotonin, norepinephrine, and endorphins that helps to calm you and promotes better sleep. By promoting a state of relaxation during sessions, your body can focus on healing.
And you are probably wondering what all can acupuncture treat. Here's a link with some of the most common conditions I treat at the clinic.
Stay tuned for our next email, where we'll talk about the range of conditions that acupuncture can treat. Spoiler alert: it's more than you might think!
Until next time,
